Who owns the domain name if site canceled?

Thu Feb 18, 2010 @ 06:49AM

If I cancel one of my websites (not a "free" website) what happens to the domain name? Do I still own it for a certain amount of time? I know that most domain names are owned on a yearly basis, in general. So, is my domain name mine, or yours, if I have to cancel a website?
Thanks

We purchased the domain on your behalf so it is yours for up to a full year from the date you signed up. After that we do not renew it. We can transfer the domain for you if you wish...

I signed up for a business site yesterday and got my domain and I canceled the account today. I did find another site that is easier for me and cheaper for me as well.
Will you still transfer my domain there or was it canceled as well?

Internet regulations do not allow domains to be transferred until at least 60 days from purchase. We will transfer your domain anywhere you want after that. We can point that domain to any website you want until that 60 day time period has passed.

What is the charge for keeping the Domain if I cancelled within 5 days?
